Daikanyama Why Juice? opens on the 11th with 10 kinds of fresh juice. Easy to drink, with the natural flavor of the ingredients.

Jul 7, 2014

Daikanyama's cold-pressed juice shop "Why Juice?" (13-8-1 Daikanyama-cho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo) held a tasting event ahead of its July 11th opening.

Inside the wood-grain interior, staff members, wearing uniforms with a work-style feel but designed with a pharmacy's white coats in mind, produce juice using seasonal vegetables and fruits from contracted farms. Instead of using a slow juicer, they use a machine imported from the United States that uses an authentic cold-pressed method, which leaves no fiber behind, making the juice easy to digest and gentle on the stomach.

The colorful juices, packaged in 180ml glass bottles, are preservative-free and only juices squeezed that day are served. The lineup includes 10 varieties, including "Awake" (600 yen), made with the juice of more than one and a half oranges; "Almond Milk" (600 yen), which is more nutritious and lower in calories than cow's milk; "Balance" (800 yen), made with apples, carrots, and ginger; and "All You Want" (1,000 yen), made with beets for its detoxifying properties. Each drink retains the natural flavor of vegetables and fruits, while the natural sweetness and spices make them easy to drink. The cold-pressed method also creates a clean, pure taste. Shop director Mia Uchida, who aims to create a juice brand leveraging her experience living in the United States, says, "We aim to be a place where busy people can quickly drop in and get some nutrition. We also deliver to offices." For the time being, the service is limited to offices and shops, primarily in Shibuya Ward, but there is a possibility of expanding to Minato Ward and other areas in the future.
