Enoshima Aquarium to hold "Night Aquarium" showcasing 3D images of the deep sea

Jul 18, 2014

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the opening of the Shin Enoshima Aquarium this spring, the special event "Night Aquarium" will be held from July 20th to November 30th.
This event, held after 5:00 PM, aims to showcase the aquarium's charms at night. A highlight is the 3D projection mapping projected in several locations throughout the aquarium. It was created by "NAKED," a creative group led by Ryotaro Muramatsu, who has garnered attention for their 3D projection mapping "TOKYO HIKARI VISION" at Tokyo Station and the project mapping "KARAKURI" held at the Tokyo National Museum's special exhibition "Kyoto: The Beauty of Rakuchu Rakugaizu and Screen Paintings."
The theme of the 3D projection mapping at Shin Enoshima Aquarium is "Deep Sea." Images projected onto the aquarium tanks, floors, and walls blend with the world inside the tanks to create a fantastical world. The Sagami Bay Zone walkways and slopes feature interactive displays using motion sensors. Lights resembling ripples overflowing the tank and marine life interact with human movement, creating the illusion of actually being underwater. A gigantic mapping show takes place in front of the Sagami Bay Large Tank. Deep-sea bubbles, deep-sea creatures, and giant creatures are depicted, bringing the world of the deep sea to life throughout the entire space. Mr. Muramatsu, who has long wanted to incorporate projection mapping into aquariums, commented, "I was interested in the kind of revolution that introducing projection mapping could bring to aquariums, which are places that offer romantic experiences. I hope that visitors will enjoy the world created in collaboration with live fish, feeling like they're really in the deep sea." Mr. Sakana-kun, who was appointed as an official supporter of this event, was excited by the world Muramatsu created, saying, "It's fantastical and amazing." "You'll be able to see fish that are active during the day sleeping, and nocturnal fish moving around actively, so I hope you enjoy the differences in the daytime and nighttime lifestyles of marine fish," he said.

At the Ocean Cafe on the second floor of the building, you can enjoy beautiful cocktails reminiscent of the sea, such as Night Aqua Blue, Cassis Orange, and Cassis Peach Soda (500 yen each), which have been added to the menu in conjunction with the event, making it a popular new spot in Shonan for adults to enjoy.
