SUZUSAN, a Düsseldorf-based brand specializing in scarves made using the traditional Nagoya Arimatsu Narumi shibori technique, announced a collaboration with Christian Wijnants for Spring/Summer 2015, following their collaboration with Yohji Yamamoto this Fall/Winter. This Spring/Summer collection also attracted attention, with Dior providing Arimatsu shibori fabrics for the Dior Spring/Summer 2014 Haute Couture collection, where Natalie Portman wore a dress. The collaboration with Christian Wijnants, announced at the Tranoy exhibition in Paris in June, features a six-piece silk-cotton knitwear collection dyed with the board-dyeing technique, using Japanese seamless knitting techniques. Wijnants, who develops a unique worldview through knitwear, has previously collaborated with traditional artisans to incorporate knitting techniques from around the world. In addition to the SUZUSAN items, this time they are also proposing two Made in Japan items made by a Japanese knitwear manufacturer. Suzusan was established in 2008 by Hiroyuki Murase, the fifth-generation owner of Suzuzo Shoten (now Suzusan), a company with over 100 years of history specializing in Arimatsu shibori (decorative shibori) prints. While studying at the Düsseldorf Academy of Fine Arts in Germany, the company's products are currently sold in 18 countries. Their products are also sold in select shops such as L'eclaireur in Paris and Antonioli in Milan. A workshop was held at the Isetan Shinjuku Men's Store in March of this year. Since the mid-1980s, Tokyo designers have been incorporating Arimatsu shibori into their collections, and in 1992, the first International Shibori Conference was held there. Since then, the conference has been held every few years around the world. In 1994, Kansai Yamamoto's production of "Aportage" attracted attention with the use of works by the late shibori artist and researcher Kozo Takeda.
