Yohji Yamamoto will launch its new luxury accessory brand, "Discord," at the Isetan Shinjuku store on May 12th. Select items were first unveiled at Nipponista in New York in February.
Discord means "disharmony." The asymmetry and other elements of the design are characteristic of Yohji Yamamoto. Designer Yohji Yamamoto, who has been active for over 30 years since his Paris Fashion Week debut in 1981, created the brand to propose new values through luxury accessories.
The collection features bags, shoes, and scarves made with a focus on Made in Japan quality, incorporating the refined beauty and delicacy of Japanese culture into the designs. The scarves feature inkjet printing of Kyo-yuzen dyeing. Additionally, some bag tags feature iPod mirrors produced in Tsubame-Sanjo, showcasing a commitment to Japanese craftsmanship down to the smallest detail.
The photographs used on the bags and wallets in the monochrome collection were taken by Hiroyuki Arakawa, who was also used for the brand's 2011-2012 AW textiles.
After the release at Isetan Shinjuku, the collection will be available at Ginza Mitsukoshi from the 21st, Yohji Yamamoto Aoyama Flagship Store from the 23rd, and Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Flagship Store from the 28th.
In addition, for a limited time from April 26th to June 8th, the brand will collaborate with Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo to hold an "INSTALLATION at Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo by Yohji Yamamoto" event in the lobby on the hotel's top floor (38th floor).
