Berlin Ethical Fashion Report 2/2--High fashion is also environmentally conscious

Jul 23, 2014

An ethical fashion trade fair was held in Berlin, Germany, for three days from July 8th to 10th. The venue was divided into two sections based on the type of fashion featured. One was the "Ethical Fashion Show Berlin," showcasing casual street fashion. The other was the "Green Showroom," showcasing high-end fashion for business and parties.

The Green Showroom was held at the luxury Hotel Adlon Kempinski near the Brandenburg Gate. The venue's glittering atmosphere was complemented by a display of elegant ethical fashion products. Over 30 brands from around the world showcased these products. The venue's space was vibrantly decorated with a wide variety of products, including clothing, accessories, and bags.

As the word "green" suggests, environmentally conscious brands stood out at the venue. Many brands used natural materials, such as organic cotton. This commitment to materials also contributes to the luxury of high fashion, seamlessly blending with ethical fashion. As a result, the venue resembled a high-fashion trade show.

Like other brands, the Dutch brand Studio Elsien Gringhuis is environmentally conscious, using natural materials. However, their environmental awareness extends beyond the raw materials they use; it also extends to techniques such as recycling used dyes. This environmentally conscious brand, both in materials and production processes, has also succeeded in creating simple and beautiful designs.

Among the diverse styles on display, the German brand Farrah Floyd stood out as a strong personality. Their clothes, featuring a wide range of colors and numerous straight lines and pleats, had a strong presence. The linear patterns eliminate small scraps of fabric, allowing for efficient use of materials. Their environmental awareness was directly visible in the form of their clothing.

There were also some designs at the venue that went beyond the boundaries of fashion. This was showcased by the German artist duo Blond and Bieber. The two female artists are collaborating with the shoe brand Trippen. The distinctive colors of their collaborative pieces are all dyed with plant pigments. The concept is to bring the potential of natural materials closer to us. The fusion of art and fashion resulted in something new.

This time, we saw new forms of fashion emerging from a variety of brands. Because they defy the traditional fashion framework, they hold a wealth of potential. In other words, they not only showcase beautiful designs, but also serve as a means of communicating the expression of designers and artists. It can be said that the "Green Showroom" played an important role in raising awareness of the many possibilities inherent in ethical fashion.
