GANRYU held its SS15 collection show at its headquarters showroom on July 30th. The show began with the sudden burst of Irish music, creating an uneasy atmosphere thanks to a spoken word in English. The theme for the men's collection was "contrast." Designer GANRYU Fumito described the natural feel, primarily off-white, as "an atmosphere I've always loved and wanted to express someday." The texture of washed cotton and raw-edged jersey express GANRYU's sentiment that something is both unfinished and complete. Shirts and blousons feature patchwork of square pieces and regular pleats, adding a graphic touch. The washed texture and denim stitching on tailored jackets add a work-like feel. Ganryu's signature quilted skirts and sarouel skirts were featured, and in the second half of the collection, multicolored and monochrome striped T-shirts were also introduced. Maruryu said, "I want you to use your imagination" when referring to the messages "L.I.F.E is peachy" and "information is knowledge" written on the backs of blousons and other items. The theme for women's wear was "readymade." Colors like red, green, and yellow evoke vintage clothing. Checkered fabric and plain jersey were alternated with curves, and twisted and draped to create the silhouettes of mini dresses and skirts. Summer knit tops and slip-ons combining sneakers and leather shoes were also retro and cute. "I think vintage clothing is a special kind of 'ready-to-wear.' I tried to incorporate the ambiguous nuances unique to women's wear, something I've intentionally avoided until now. (As I continue with women's wear) I think that sensibility is starting to influence my men's clothing," Maruryu said.
