Isetan Shinjuku is proposing "Future Summer Gifts," a summer gift that connects people not through formalities but through feelings of gratitude. Based on the concept of "casual yet enriching," the gift offers space, time, and experiences. The offering will run from July 30th to August 5th at The Stage #1 on the first floor of the main building.
"Future Gifts" are based on Japanese culture that we want to pass on to the future, such as Obon and end-of-year greetings, and gift-giving to express gratitude. The goal is to create a new gift movement that preserves the essence of gift-giving and is open to everyone, from young people to seniors.
This project is being implemented in collaboration with the "ifs Future Research Institute," a group of creators led by Yoko Kawashima of Itochu Fashion System, which provides corporate brand consulting support and promotes lifestyles for the near future. Targeting discerning women, the items will feature the keywords "summer," "Japan," "modern," and "bonds."
Gift styles will be broadly categorized into five categories. The "Experience" category, where people can have fun together and create memories, offers gift certificates for making 1/10-scale figurines with a 3D printer, gift certificates for rental farms, and gift certificates for housekeeping services. The "Time" category, designed to allow people to enjoy the time spent together and the time waiting for their gift to arrive, offers the "Toraya x Baccarat Collaboration Set," a Baccarat tumbler filled with Toraya's jewelry-themed amber jelly, and the "KOKUYO Roofed Roll Table," a table wrapped in KOKUYO paper that allows grandparents and grandchildren to draw pictures and communicate with each other. The "Space" category offers "MOLOTON BROWN Aroma Reeds" and "DEICA Botanical Herb Diffusers," which will make spending time indoors more comfortable. The "Fashion Gift" category, which combines the latest fashions, offers "Kincho x mina perhonen Mosquito Coils" in mina perhonen's fashionable packaging, as well as custom-made accessories. "Nippon Gift," a line of made-in-Japan gifts that make use of Japanese traditions, will offer a wide variety of gifts, including the "PORTER Classic Kendo Gi Series," which uses traditional Japanese kendo uniforms and can be personalized with an embroidered name, and the "Tomita Dyeing Crafts Ties, Handkerchiefs, and Scarves," which proposes ties currently being developed using traditional kimono techniques to be paired with existing handkerchiefs. "While demand for mid-year and year-end gifts is declining, many customers are still coming to department stores every day to buy gifts. We feel that the nature of gift-giving is changing, with people selecting gifts that will please the recipient rather than choosing something that is formal or based on price, and the giver enjoying the time they spend choosing. We focused on this and proposed a different type of gift from what has come before, from an Isetan perspective. It contains many experimental elements, but we are very much looking forward to seeing how people respond," said an Isetan planning representative. Mirai Gifts will also be available on the Isetan EC site, with many items being sold, including some that cannot be displayed in stores, from July 30th to August 31st.
