Tokyu Corporation (hereinafter referred to as Tokyu Corporation) is developing a commercial facility called the "(tentative) Daikanyama Toyoko Line Upper Development Plan" on the former track above the newly created tunnel created by the Toyoko Line being moved underground. It aims to open in spring 2015.
Hoping that Daikanyama will become a new symbol of the city, the plan is to create a comfortable space filled with greenery, even in the heart of the city. The aim is to create a new type of commercial space that offers "gathering," "relaxation," and "stimulation."
Five buildings are planned to open on the former Toyoko Line railway site, covering an area of 3,200 square meters and a total length of 220 meters, including Kirin Beer's new craft beer establishment, SPRING VALLEY BREWERY TOKYO, Fred Segal, a lifestyle multi-purpose select mall from the US West Coast that will be opening in Japan for the first time, and Tartine Bakery & Cafe, a popular bakery from San Francisco that will also be opening for the first time.
The project will be produced by Yoko Shibata, a brand producer involved in the branding of Palace Hotel Tokyo and Lumine, architect Shin Ohori, founder of the architectural firm General Design, and Masato Sekiguchi, representative of THINK GREEN PRODUCE.
Tokyu Corporation has embarked on a large-scale redevelopment project, starting with Shibuya Hikarie, which opened in 2012, in order to make Shibuya an international tourist and cultural city. The project involves updating and reorganizing the functions of Shibuya Station, redeveloping the station building, and also planning to build commercial facilities directly above Shibuya Station, at the former Toyoko Line Shibuya Station, the site of the Miyashitacho Apartments, in the Dogenzaka block, and at the Sakuragaoka exit.
