At the Dutch fashion designer Iris Van Herpen's 2015-16 Autumn/Winter runway show held in Paris, shoes designed by Japanese designer Noriyuki Tatehana adorned the feet of models. These beautiful and enchanting shoes, which appeared as if crystals were bound to bare feet with netting, were a collaboration between NORITAKA TATEHANA and Iris Van Herpen, called "Heel-less Shoes for Iris Van Herpen."
Noriyuki Tatehana, creative director of NORITAKA TATEHANA, collaborated with Iris Van Herpen for approximately six months to create these shoes. Featuring a crystal-shaped platform, the shoes are based on Tatehana's signature heelless shoes. Heelless shoes are designed without the typical heel components, with the heel raised higher than the toe, like a high heel.
The collaborative shoes were created with the help of Imai Shio and Nagata Kenjiro of MOA Creation, who handle all 3D modeling for Tatehana's sculptures. By combining the vibrations of handcrafted work with the smooth numerical sequences of computers, this deconstructed form was realized as a pair of shoes.
Tatehana said, "Iris's request was hardly suitable for shoes. However, I found that rewarding in itself. Although she appears gentle at first glance, she is a strong person with the ability to make things happen, sparing no effort to realize her vision. We have learned a lot from this creation, and we see this encounter as just the beginning."
