Gucci has begun exhibiting works by Tanabe Chikuunsai IV, an artist who has garnered international attention for his bamboo artworks, based on the theme of bamboo, which is symbolic of Gucci, at its flagship store, Gucci Namiki, in Ginza, Tokyo, which will celebrate its first anniversary on April 29, 2022.

For this exhibition, Tanabe Chikuunsai IV has created a bold installation in the space of the spiral staircase connecting the first and second floors of the shop. The dynamic, organic bamboo structure, woven from black bamboo, representing tradition, and white bamboo, representing the future, overlaps and unifies, spreading from the spiral staircase to the ceiling, embodying Gucci's journey into the future as it continues to evolve by incorporating modern elements while preserving tradition. Through meticulous handcrafting that inherits bamboo craft techniques, the works convey the beauty, strength, and architectural potential of bamboo, while also depicting a story of the cycle of life and regeneration. This collaboration between Gucci and Chikuunsai Tanabe IV follows the experiential exhibition "Gucci Bamboo House," which was held in Kyoto last summer to mark the 100th anniversary of the brand's founding.

Gucci Namiki is a base that embodies the creative vision of Alessandro Michele, who redefines luxury fashion with a contemporary approach. The four-floor space includes a shop on the first and second floors, the "Gucci Apartment" salon on the third floor, which accommodates customers' custom-made requests by appointment only, and the "Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura Tokyo" restaurant on the fourth floor, created in collaboration with three-star Michelin chef Massimo Bottura. To celebrate its first anniversary, the Gucci Namiki shop will be the first to offer special limited-edition items, including limited-edition colors of the Gucci Bamboo 1947 and Gucci Diana. Featuring bamboo handles symbolizing Gucci's origins, the Gucci Bamboo 1947 and Gucci Diana are part of the "Gucci Beloved" line, specially designed by Alessandro Michele as signature bags that evolve while exuding timeless appeal.

Additionally, from April 29 to May 7, 2022, Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura Tokyo will offer a dinner course featuring a special bamboo-themed dish, part of Head Chef Antonio Iacoviello's imaginative seasonal menu, which combines traditional Italian cuisine with Japanese ingredients (reservations required.
