Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "the one book you should read right now" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Wednesday, we will introduce recommended books from Keibunsha Ichijoji (10 Ichijoji Furadono-cho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto), a Kyoto-based shop specializing in a selection of books and all things related to books.

■ "A Novel Guide: 50 Meals the Protagonists Ate" by Dina Freed

This photo book recreates dishes featured in literary works from around the world and throughout history, from the madeleines and tea in Marcel Proust's "In Search of Lost Time" to the corn crust bread in Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" to the lavish party menu in F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby."

The author is New York-based designer Dina Freed. Not only does it recreate the recipes, but the styling also brings to mind the setting of the work. It might even be fun to be inspired to read by cooking.
