Plants and projection mapping: Ricoh's technology adds movement of light to photos

Dec 11, 2014

The special exhibition "Light & Nature ~Photography and the Art of Projection" will be held at Ricoh Imaging Square Shinjuku from December 10th to 22nd.
The exhibition is a collaboration between Ryotaro Muramatsu of the comedy duo Naked, who specializes in projection mapping, and photographer Makiko Kinjo. Ricoh will be showcasing a Christmas installation using its cutting-edge cylindrical projection mapping technology.
Projection mapping onto a cylindrical screen, previously considered difficult, has been achieved. By adding movement to otherwise static photographs with projection mapping, the exhibition transcends the boundaries of photography. Ricoh plans to apply this technology to digital signage and wide-angle immersive displays. The pamphlet distributed at the venue also features a hidden feature: if you take a photo with your smartphone, you can watch behind-the-scenes footage and behind-the-scenes videos.
