From April 29th to May 5th, Isetan Shinjuku will be hosting "goen°plant planet by Morimoto Chie - From the Haha Tree to the Boku Tree. A story passed down through the generations." The exhibition will be held on various floors of the main building, primarily at The Stage on the first floor. Morimoto's depiction of a loving world of parents and children will be expressed through spatial design and products.
The event will feature collaborative items such as women's clothing, miscellaneous goods, and food, all overseen by art director and communication director Morimoto Chie. During the same period, Morimoto will also be directing the spatial design of Isetan Shinjuku, and together with the collaborative items, will express the story of a mother passing down from mother to child through loving creations.
The project will center around a story originally drawn by Morimoto: "A mother's Haha tree gives the child's Boku tree the "leaf" of a story, helping it to grow." "Haha" tells stories filled with "important messages" featuring owls, tears, pockets, puppies, and other creatures to "Boku," who loves to listen to stories. The characters from the stories appear in a wide range of items, including women's clothing, miscellaneous goods, and food. More than 100 collaborative items inspired by the world of the stories have been created. The lineup ranges from Mother's Day gift items like tote bags (3,600 yen) and handkerchiefs (2,000 yen) to children's dresses (7,900 yen). Morimoto's art also appears in the campaign visuals for the Mother's Day campaign "Mother's Day is Family Photo Day," which will be held at Mitsukoshi Isetan Group stores from April 22 to May 10. Story illustrations by Morimoto and his goen° colleagues decorate windows and other areas of the store. Regarding this collaboration, Morimoto said, "I think it may have been as a message card for my mother that I first began drawing. My mother always told me original stories. That gift was imagination, a gift that remains a treasure to me today. I'm currently pregnant. I drew this wooden planet of a parent and child to express my gratitude to my mother and to pass on love and imagination to future generations." Morimoto is the leader of the group "goen°," which aims to "invent encounters, give shape to dreams, and connect people." Her diverse work includes corporate advertising, artwork for musicians like Yumi Matsutoya, book covers, and art for films and stage productions. She has also received numerous awards, including the Itami Juzo Award, the Architectural Institute of Japan Award, and Nikkei Woman of the Year 2012.
