The new Gucci, under the auspices of creative director Alessandro Michele, held its Fall/Winter 2015-16 women's collection show in Milan on February 25th. The reimagined Gucci, reimagined under former creative director Frida Giannini, reimagined the chic, sexy, and feminine style, showcasing a complex worldview that was romantic, girlish, liberal, and full of contradictions. The first look featured a bold, skin-revealing tulle top paired with a bright red pleated skirt. The necklace adorned the figure, evoking the image of a young girl playing in a flower field. This was followed by a pastel blue tiered dress, a long dress with a large floral print, all-lace dresses and pants, and oversized ribbons. The collection proposed a new image of the feminine through a variety of ideas, including the use of materials, details, color palette, relaxed shoes, and large eyewear. The male models appeared in women's wear, including pajama-like floral suits, ruffled silk blouses, and shirts with bow ties. Michele also featured women's models in his previously unveiled Gucci Fall/Winter 2015-16 Men's Collection. The collection quoted French philosopher Roland Barthes's words, "The contemporary is anti-time," as its message, explaining "the freedom to construct new meanings at the crossroads of time, the freedom to choose one's own way of being." Overturning the Italian tradition of men being masculine and women being feminine, the collection opened up new possibilities for Gucci with its genderless and liberating values.
