The first overseas branch of the "royal purveyor" bakery opens at Marché ecute Kanda Manseibashi

Aug 30, 2015

To celebrate its second anniversary, mAAch ecute Kanda Manseibashi, a commercial facility operated by East Japan Station Retailing, will open a new shop. Limited-time products will also be available at the permanent shop. The highlight of the second anniversary celebration will be the opening of Hofbackerei Edegger-Tax, a long-established Austrian bakery, at mAAch ecute Kanda Manseibashi on September 5th. This traditional bakery was awarded the title of "Royal Warrant" by the House of Habsburg, and this will be its first overseas branch. In addition to traditional breads such as "Hand Kaiser" (200 yen) and "Kipfels" (250 yen), the shop will also offer a Japan-exclusive menu to coincide with the opening. This was devised by the chef of the Vienna confectionery shop "Neues," which is the partner for the Japanese store, in response to the desire of Robert Edegger, the owner of the main store, who wanted to "try a different style since we're doing this overseas."

Serves include "open sandwiches" (350-380 yen) with sliced bread topped with ham, smoked salmon, white asparagus, etc., and "Edegger Torte" (540 yen), which was born from Robert Edegger's question, "What would happen if we expressed our tradition as a supplier to the royal family in the form of sweets?"

In addition, from September 5th to 27th, a limited menu will be available from the permanent shop. Some of the items on offer include NOAKE TOKYO's butter cake "Cake Fig" (432 yen), Obscura Coffee Roasters' "Manseibashi 2nd Anniversary Blend" (from 650 yen for 100g), Hitachino Brewing Lab's "Hitachino Nest Beer Early Harvested Hops" (680 yen), Surugaya Kahei's "Kahei's Shiokara Set Meal" (1,150 yen) featuring daily salted fish, grilled fish, handmade kamaboko, salad, and soup, and Fukumori's "Yamagata Mountain Vegetable Platter" (1,200 yen) featuring boiled greens and dadacha mame cake salé.

In addition, a physical store of the online shop "Fujimaki Department Store" will be open from September 19th to 27th only. As a first attempt, a corner will be set up in collaboration with traditional crafts of Tokyo, selling items made by "artisanal handiwork" that have been nurtured in the long history and climate that has continued from Edo to Tokyo, such as Edo glass, Tokyo cloisonné, and Edo sarasa. There will also be demonstrations by active artisans and hands-on workshops.
