James Jean, the artist known for his artwork for Prada and the rock band Linkin Park, has released his first original art book in Japan, "James Jean Art Book: Pareidolia" (4,200 yen). Los Angeles-based James Jean is an artist who has attracted the attention of contemporary artist Takashi Murakami and film director Guillermo del Toro, known for films such as "Pacific Rim." His style is influenced by traditional Japanese woodblock prints and ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai and Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. Since his early days, he has won numerous awards for his cover art for American comics, including the popular DC Comics title "Fables" and Dark Horse Comics' "The Umbrella Academy." This first-of-its-kind art book, now available in Japan, includes a best-of selection of his past works as well as a collection of Linkin Park art. One clever twist is that when you open the folded cover, a large 836mm x 555mm poster appears.

The title "pareidolia" is a psychiatric term that refers to an unstable state in which the shape of an object is perceived as something other than a real thing, such as seeing a stain on the wall as a human face, and it expresses James Jean's artwork, which exudes a sense of delicacy and mystery.
