Scandinavian furniture manufacturer Fritz Hansen will be hosting an installation at Zojoji Temple's Koshoden Hall from October 24th to November 3rd to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the classic "Seven Chair." "7 COOL ARCHITECTS" was launched to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the "Seven Chair," a classic piece of furniture designed by Arne Jacobsen, and to explore new possibilities. Seven internationally renowned architects, including Zaha Hadid, Jun Igarashi Architects, Neri & Hu, Carlos Ott & Carlos Ponce de Leon Architects, Jean Nouvel, and Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), have reinterpreted the "Seven Chair" from their own perspectives to create one-of-a-kind art pieces. Following exhibitions in London, Copenhagen, and Belgium, "7 COOL ARCHITECTS" will make its first appearance in Japan at "AnyTokyo 2015," a design event held at Zojoji Temple's Koshoden Hall.
The installation, created by architect Hiroyuki Shinozaki, who received acclaim at this year's Milan Salone, displays the unique "Seven Chairs" by seven pairs of architects. Carlos Ott & Carlos Ponce de Leon Architects created the concept for "Celebra," the flagship building of the technological campus Sonamerica. The design incorporates the curves that make up each area of the vertical garden, which grows organically on the open roof wall of the basement.
In addition, Zaha Hadid has created a dynamic and seamless model characterized by two steel rods that surround the iconic seat form, Jean Nouvel has created a model with a striking contrasting use of black and white, and Igarashi Jun Design & Architecture has created a model based on the concept of "collecting waste wood, staining it, and turning it into boards that can be used for furniture."
The "Seven Chair," created through this project, will be exhibited in Tokyo and then travel to Asia, before being put up for charity auction.
