Bridal fashion designer Yumi Katsura celebrates her 50th anniversary this year. Her wedding dresses have graced over 700,000 brides to date. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of her brand, Yumi Katsura, the exhibition "Yumi Katsura's Path: SHINING FOREVER" has opened in the gallery on the 7th floor of the new Mitsukoshi Main Store in Nihonbashi. This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see up close the exquisite dresses woven by Yumi Katsura's masterful craftsmanship. Visitors can view each of her exquisite dresses, including the "World's Most Akoya Pearl Dress with 13,262 Pearls," a Guinness World Record-winning dress, and the "Marie Dress with a Flower Cocoon Veil Made from Wild Silkworm Cocoons." Many of her dresses have been widely seen by the general public on television and in magazines, having been worn by celebrities at their weddings. The exhibition also features costumes from eight celebrity pairs. Celebrity couples whose wedding attire will be on display include Tamura Atsushi and his wife, Arimura Kun and Maruoka Izumi, Azuma Takahiro and Yasu Megumi, Hayashiya Sanpei and Kokubu Sachiko, Ichikawa Ebizo and Kobayashi Mao, Ishida Junichi and Higashio Riko, Nakayama Masashi and Ikuta Tomoko, Miura Kazuyoshi and Shitara Risako, and Yoroizuka Toshihiko and the late Kawashima Naomi. Appearing at the opening ceremony on the first day of the exhibition, Katsura mourned Kawashima's passing, saying, "I really wanted Kawashima to see this exhibition. It's such a shame." Also appearing at the opening ceremony were Nakayama Masashi and Ikuta Tomoko, who are also collaborating on the exhibition. The couple wore tuxedos and wedding dresses designed by Katsura, expressing their support for Katsura's recommendation that, "While low-key weddings and no wedding ceremony at all are popular in Japan these days, it's definitely better to have an anniversary wedding, recreating the spirit of the time by wearing your wedding attire on your wedding anniversary." Katsura Yumi also expressed confidence, saying, "After seeing this exhibit, everyone will definitely want to have a wedding and wear a wedding dress." Indeed, when faced with eye-catching dresses such as "a wedding dress made from the world's lightest silk" and "a dress embroidered with 500,000 sea bream scales dyed in 100 colors," anyone will surely have a strong desire to wear a beautiful dress. Also noteworthy is "The Bright World," a corner surrounded by black curtains that symbolizes Yumi Katsura's motto of combining tradition and innovation. You'll be enchanted by the fantastical costumes on display here, including Grand Marie, made with fluorescent and glow-in-the-dark beads, and traditional Japanese costumes that transform into costumes in the dark.

The exhibition will run until October 5th (until 5pm on the final day). On September 30th and October 3rd, there will also be gallery talks and autograph sessions with Yumi Katsura.
