Daisuke Hashizume, who worked as a pattern maker at COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS for 10 years, has launched his own brand, biscuithead, which will be fully launched from the Spring/Summer 2016 season.

Hashizume, who is both the designer and pattern maker for the brand, studied tailoring at the London College of Fashion (LCF) and, after returning to Japan, worked as a designer and pattern maker at MARGARET HOWELL, a brand under Unglobal Inc., for four years. He then worked as a pattern maker at COMME des GARÇONS HOMME PLUS, a brand under COMME des GARÇONS Inc., for 10 years before going independent in the spring of 2015.

Under the concept of "pop and fun clothing," the Spring/Summer 2016 collection is themed around "adjustable," drawing on everyday adjustability as a design inspiration. It features a total of nine pieces: three jackets, two pants, one coat, one hoodie, one T-shirt, and one bag. Each piece features an adjustable mechanism—either a large plastic zipper, belt, or Velcro—that allows for tightening of the sleeves or hem, shortening of the length, or opening and closing the center back of the coat or jacket to adjust the overall volume.


The collection also focuses on color, using only six primary colors: blue, pink, purple, yellow, black, and white. The fun of matching these pieces and using the zippers at the bottom of the T-shirts to freely coordinate colors, as well as the contrast created by the color combinations, give them a "POP" feel.

"For example, I think it would be interesting if bookstores or greengrocers were one of our wholesale customers," says Hashizume. "Rather than being limited to the category of 'fashion,' we would first like to establish a foothold in Tokyo, and then make proposals in stores that promote lifestyles in general, including interior design and products."

As this comment suggests, the brand is also considering designs in a wide range of genres, including interior design, products, and space.
