Playwright Noda Hideki was born on December 20, 1955, in Nagasaki Prefecture. He joined the Theater Research Society at the University of Tokyo and founded the theater company Yume no Yuminsha in 1976. He dropped out in 1981 and began his career as a playwright. He won the Kishida Drama Award in 1983 for "Nokemono Kitarite" (The Beast Descends). He also won the Kinokuniya Drama Award in 1986. His performances received high praise both at home and abroad, including participation in the Edinburgh International Festival in 1987. However, after disbanding his theater company in 1992, Noda studied in London under the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Overseas Study Program for Artists. After returning to Japan, he founded the planning and production company NODA MAP and released a string of popular works, including "Kill," "Pandora's Bell," "RED DEMON," and "Oil." These activities were recognized, and in 2000 he received the Kinokuniya Theater Award Individual Award, the Minister of Education's Art Encouragement Prize, and the Yomiuri Theater Award for Best Play.

He then became the artistic director of the Tokyo Metropolitan Theatre in 2009. In 2012, he organized the first world tour of "NODA MAP," performing "THE BEE" with a British cast. In addition to directing and performing in his own plays, in 2013 he also appeared in Koki Mitani's play "Damn Napoleon."
