LOUIS VUITTON is holding the exhibition "Volez, Voguez, Voyagez - Louis Vuitton" (To the Sky, To the Sea, Beyond - Louis Vuitton Travels) at the Grand Palais in Paris until February 21, 2016.
The exhibition traces the Maison's epic journey from its founding in 1854 to the present through the lives of the people behind the brand. The curator is Olivier Saillard, director of the Palais Galliera Museum of Fashion and Costume in Paris, with spatial design by stage director Robert Carsen. The exhibition is structured as a travel story, divided into nine themed chapters. The museum displays carefully selected objects and documents from the Maison's archives, as well as items on loan from the Palais Galliera Museum of Fashion and Costume in Paris and from private collections. Gustave Courbet's "Le chene de Flagey (The Oak of Flagey)," which was acquired by the Courbet Museum in 2013, will also be exhibited in Paris for the first time.
The opening night to celebrate the exhibition was attended by Emmanuel Macron, France's Minister of Economy, Industry and Digital Affairs, as well as many renowned artists representing the art scene, including Daniel Buren, Bertrand Ravier, Christian de Portzamparc, Xavier Veilhan and Olafur Eliasson.
