Diving into the concept design of the Fondation Louis Vuitton and the world of Frank Gehry as it celebrates its first anniversary

Oct 26, 2015

The Fondation Louis Vuitton, a comprehensive cultural and artistic facility that opened in Paris's Bois de Boulogne in October 2014 as a "new space for contemporary art," is currently being held at the Espace Louis Vuitton Tokyo in Omotesando, Tokyo, showcasing the museum's architectural project, designed by master architect Frank Gehry. This exhibition, part of the "Beyond-the-Walls" project, which sees the Fondation expand beyond Paris to encompass artistic endeavors around the world, toured Paris from October 2014 to February 2015 and Beijing in the summer of 2015, achieving great success. Gehry describes the Fondation Louis Vuitton as "a magnificent vessel symbolizing France's profound cultural mission." This exhibition explores the entire process, from early sketches to the actual models that were built and used, providing a glimpse into the concept's formation. Since 1991, the LVMH Group has been a pioneer in corporate patronage, actively supporting artistic heritage, youth, and humanitarian projects in France. President and CEO Bernard Arnault is passionate about architecture, and his work is clearly committed to art.

The Fondation Louis Vuitton's 12 translucent sails are made from 3,600 unique glass panels. Surrounded by glass on three sides, the light-filled Espace Louis Vuitton exhibits a similar atmosphere to the Fondation Louis Vuitton itself, bathed in light.

At the venue, you can also watch footage of a concert conducted by Seiji Ozawa at the Fondation Louis Vuitton. The opening of the exhibition was attended by Seiji Ozawa, Yukiyoshi Ozawa, Rin Takanashi, Hidetoshi Nakata, Rila Fukushima, Mika Ninagawa, and Bernard Arnault, President and CEO of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton/President of the Fondation Louis Vuitton.

This exhibition, which allows visitors to dive into the world of Frank Gehry, will inspire everyone, whether they have visited the Fondation Louis Vuitton before or are planning to visit, aspiring architects, or those involved in manufacturing.
