In April 2022, Bvlgari will launch the second chapter of its "Color Journey," the Spinel Collection.

Gemstones are a remarkable gift from nature, bringing color, the joy of freedom, and inspiring beauty to our world. They are also the spirit and signature of Bvlgari's style. Known for its passion for vibrant, rich nuances, Bvlgari, a Roman high jeweler and master of colored stones, has traveled the world in search of the most magnificent gemstones since its founding. Now, Bvlgari will embark on a new color journey, taking you to the mysterious country of Tajikistan, home of the finest spinel.

In 2020, Bvlgari's journey of color began in Brazil and Mozambique, where the unique existence of Paraiba tourmaline was revealed. In the second chapter of Bvlgari's "Color Journey," the brand presents an exquisite High Jewelry collection dedicated to the spinel's magnificent brilliance and vibrant spirit. Upon arriving in Rome, the enchanting spinel was entrusted to Lucia Silvestri, Executive Director of Jewelry Creation and Gem Buying at Bvlgari, where it began its exciting journey to the skilled artisans to become a Bvlgari High Jewelry piece.

Available in a wide range of colors, from deep crimson to pastel blue, pink, purple, and gray, spinel was once considered difficult to distinguish from ruby. Many famous "rubies" were actually spinel, and the famed "Black Prince's Ruby," set in one of the earliest British Crown Jewels, was actually a smooth red spinel. Indeed, spinel's rich, vibrant colors rival those of ruby, making it difficult for anyone but a trained gemologist to distinguish the two.

Spinel's fame is closely linked to the history of the intrepid explorer Marco Polo. Spinel was first introduced to Europe during an exciting journey through Asia at the end of the 13th century. An Italian explorer first reported on the "Ballas Ruby," describing its distinctive pinkish-purple red color in his journal. The name "spinel" is said to have originated from Badakhshan Province in northern Afghanistan (now Tajikistan), famous for its ruby and spinel mines. Three centuries later, this captivating gemstone finally received its proper name, but only recently has its precious beauty been recognized and given the recognition it truly deserves. Remarkable for its vibrant color, spinel requires no heat or irradiation treatment to achieve its vibrant color; most spinels are untreated. It is also extremely durable and considered one of nature's hardest gemstones.

Exuding a vibrant and free-spirited charm, infused with rich creativity and deeply rooted savoir-faire, this capsule collection comprises approximately 20 unique creations. It will be launched in Japan in April 2022, followed by a Bvlgari High Jewelry event scheduled for June, where the brand will unveil jewelry centered around this exquisite gemstone, a one-of-a-kind "Serpenti" bag featuring spinel, and two high-end timepieces.

Based on its uncompromising and unique approach to the color, shape, and light of gemstones, Bvlgari carefully selects only spinels that boast perfect nuance, elegant and captivating cuts, and the finest transparency. A gemstone that possesses all three of these characteristics is extremely rare. These high-quality gemstones are then combined with Roman flair, sensuality, and a refined insight into the composition of color to create Bvlgari's unique creations.

The story of spinel, now reappearing in the breathtaking designs of the Roman High Jeweler, marks the second chapter of its color journey.
