The beautiful Japanese painters "Nakahara Arisa & Takai Tomoko" exhibition will be held at Shinjuku Isetan

Dec 26, 2014

The art gallery on the 5th floor of the main building of Isetan Shinjuku will be hosting the "Nakahara Arisa & Takai Tomoko: Vibrant Colors Japanese Painting Two-Person Exhibition" from January 2nd to 6th, 2015. The venue will also host the "Asakawa Hiroyoshi Sculpture Exhibition - Hana BUKIMON -," and the event space on the 6th floor of the building will be hosting an exhibition of works by young artists (until the 5th). The store will be focusing on art pieces appropriate for the New Year throughout the year.

The Japanese painting exhibition by Nakahara Arisa and Takai Tomoko features two artists of the same age who have created vibrant and beautiful works inspired by the New Year, with each artist presenting around 10 new pieces. Nakahara's work "Morning of Beginnings" (23 x 27.3 cm / 170,000 yen) is painted with mineral pigments and water-based pigments on Kumohadamash paper, a type of Japanese paper produced in Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture, and depicts the face of a woman in gorgeous traditional Japanese clothing with a dignified gaze.

Also available is "Tobari" (size 3 / 120,000 yen), which depicts a woman with beautiful eyes gazing straight ahead. Nakahara was born in 1984 and completed a graduate course at Tokyo University of the Arts before being selected for the Mitsubishi Art Gate Program. He has currently worked on the covers of Seikatsu no Tomosha's "ART collectors'" (April 2014 issue) and "Bijutsu no Mado" (June 2013 issue).

Takao's work "Red and White Plum Blossoms on a Fan" (38 x 45.5 cm / 180,000 yen) is a gorgeous red and white plum blossom painting on hemp paper, incorporating gold leaf, gold paint, and platinum paint, and also conveying elements of the Rinpa school. "Maiden with Peony" (size 3 / 100,000 yen) depicts a woman's profile using a technique called "kenpon coloring," which involves applying color to silk. Takao was also born in 1984, and after graduating from Joshibi University of Art and Design, in 2011 his work was selected for the 22nd Garyuzakura Japanese Painting Grand Prize Exhibition. He currently creates works centered on portraits of beautiful women and animals and plants, with a theme of Japanese beauty. Both artists will be in attendance from January 2nd to 4th, from 11:00 to 17:00 each day. Also being held at the same venue is Hiroyoshi Asaka's sculpture exhibition, featuring ancient weapons such as swords and shuriken (throwing stars) crafted from marble and granite, showcasing the unique textures of the materials and meticulously carved details. Visitors can experience Asaka's modern and innovative Japanese world. The exhibition will feature a naginata (long sword) called "Hana BUKIMON - Rising Flame Dragon" (230 x 45 x 125 cm, priced at 2.2 million yen), crafted from black granite, white marble, and even platinum leaf, as well as a tachi (105 x 15 x 27 cm, priced at 880,000 yen) and a dagger (70 x 15 x 25 cm, priced at 680,000 yen). The museum's 6th floor event space will host an event titled "The Power of Art - The WA of Young Artists," showcasing approximately 400 paintings and sculptures by 90 next-generation artists, from current art school students to currently active artists. The event will feature artworks and votive plaques created by each participating artist, with the theme of the new year's zodiac sign, "sheep," and "good luck." Customers who purchase a work by each artist will also receive a special gift of an original New Year's card created by that artist.
