Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten holds New Year's event at Shinjuku Isetan. Mizuno Manabu motta handkerchiefs are now available.

Dec 17, 2014

An event offering new ways to enjoy and spend the New Year and the merits of traditional crafts will be held from January 2nd to 13th at Center Park/The Stage #2 on the 2nd floor of the Isetan Shinjuku Main Building. The event is titled "Thinking about a New New Year with Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten." Founded in 1716, Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten is a long-established store that handles a wide range of household goods with the vision of "revitalizing Japanese crafts." The highlight of this event is the handkerchiefs (1,400 yen) from Nakagawa Masashichi Shoten's original brand, "motta," which is based on the concept of "casual handkerchiefs." They are available in special packaging designed by creative director Manabu Mizuno. The three designs, featuring the zodiac, Hanafuda cards, and sunrise, all feature auspicious motifs, making them a great choice for yourself to bring good luck at the start of the year. If you want to rediscover the joy of being born in Japan on the special occasion of New Year's, the "Three Sacred Treasures" set, which includes a lacquered bowl, octagonal chopsticks, and sake cup, is a great choice. Of course, we also recommend using them with osechi cuisine (New Year's dishes). There are also many other items in vibrant New Year's colors, such as original Miekiri candy, red and white chopsticks, brush pens, and tenugui (hand towels), so just browsing the storefront is sure to get you in the mood. After your New Year's visit to the shrine, be sure to stop by the store with family and friends. This event will also be held at Isetan Shinjuku, Ginza Mitsukoshi (January 2-6, West Building, 3rd Floor G Space; January 7-13, West Building, 3rd Floor Le Place), and Isetan Haneda Store (Women's) (December 26-January 6).
