A retrospective of painter Jules Pasquin is being held in Japan for the first time in 16 years

Dec 26, 2014

The Panasonic Shiodome Museum will host the "Jules Pasquin" exhibition from January 17 to March 29, 2015.
Jules Pasquin is one of the most representative painters of the École de Paris. Characterized by delicate, trembling contours and soft, pearlescent colors, he specializes in works featuring women and children. His style earned him acclaim in Paris after World War I, alongside that of Picasso and Chagall.
This exhibition marks Pasquin's first major retrospective in Japan in 16 years. The exhibition chronologically presents his work, beginning with his early 20th-century magazine cartoons, through his move to Paris and his time in the United States. It traces Pasquin's journey from his early days as a professional oil painter to his influences in the United States and Central America. The exhibition concludes with a display of mother-of-pearl oil paintings, prints, pastels, and collages, all of which were shown in Paris during his heyday in the 1920s. On February 14th, the opening event will be a lecture by Satoshi Murakami, chief curator of the Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art, entitled "Pascin and the Ecole de Paris." There will also be some unusual gallery talks, including a family appreciation program for babies and up, "With Pascin," and a conversational program, "Seeing and Talking Pascin."
