One day in June, a clear night sky spread across the sky during a break in the rainy season. I was invited to a private dinner celebrating the 15th anniversary of Tomas Maier's appointment as creative director of Bottega Veneta.
The venue was Waterline2, a floating facility at Warehouse Terrada in Tennoz. Designed by architect Kengo Kuma, this space is located on the water's edge, with the lights of the buildings on the opposite shore sparkling. It feels like a hidden cape opening up into the city of Tokyo. A white mast spreads out over the wooden deck, creating an open, airy atmosphere.

Since Thomas was also visiting Japan for the dinner party, I wondered if there would be time for a toast or speech, but that never happened... Before we knew it, the party had begun, and after a comfortable time had passed, it gradually came to a close, making for a very relaxed party.
The party venue on the ship, with the night breeze coming in, had a bar counter and scattered sofas, allowing people to engage in casual conversation with those they hadn't seen in a while or those they were meeting for the first time. As I enjoyed conversation with the guests, one portion of food was brought out one after the other. The food, made generous use of ingredients from Kumamoto Prefecture, was delicious and the conversation with the guests continued to expand.
It's not ostentatious, but it has everything you could want in a space. It was truly luxurious, and I felt like the space directly reflected Bottega Veneta's philosophy of "When your own initials are enough."

It was a night of lively conversation all over the venue.
Among the attendees were beautiful women such as actresses Hasegawa Kyoko and Shibasaki Kou, singer Nomiya Maki, and models Matsushima Hana, KIKI, Mannami Yuka, Takizawa Makiko, and Suzuki Rikka... Thomas was also seen engaging in conversation with architects Tane Tsuyoshi and Nagasaka Jo, giving us a glimpse into Thomas's deep knowledge of architecture, art, and design.

In a relaxed space, I talked about the future with people I want to meet.
It was an evening that made me think about what true luxury is.
