Nominated for the Paris Photo 2014 Awards. Yuji Hamada depicts light in his first photo book [NADiff Recommended Book]

Dec 4, 2014

Each bookstore will act as a concierge, recommending "the book you should read now" to FASHION HEADLINE readers. Every Thursday, each branch of the art bookshop "NADiff" will introduce a book they recommend. This time, we'll be looking at NADiff BITEN (1-18-4 NADiff A/P/A/R/T, 1st floor, Ebisu, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), which operated as the museum shop of the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum until September 23, 2014, and is currently operating as a shop-in-shop within the NADiff Apartments.

■ "Photograph" by Hamada Yuji

This is the first full-scale photobook by prolific photographer Hamada Yuji, whose work has appeared in numerous group exhibitions both in Japan and abroad. This book was recently nominated for the Photobook Award 2014, sponsored by Aperture, New York, at PARIS PHOTO, the world's largest photography art fair. This series was created with the idea of "portraying light on photographic paper," and uses a unique photographic technique to beautifully capture the invisible light found in everyday places and spaces, allowing you to sense it at a glance. You can also choose from four different cover designs.

Yuji Hamada was born in Osaka Prefecture in 1979. He graduated from the Department of Photography at Nihon University College of Art in 2003. After working for a publishing company, he went freelance in 2006. While living in the UK, he won the Magenta Foundation Flash Forward 2011 Emerging Photographer award as the UK's emerging photographer, and was subsequently selected to participate in the award's world traveling exhibition. He currently lives and works in Tokyo.
