Isetan Shinjuku, Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, and Ginza Mitsukoshi are hosting "KISS THE HEART," a program to support the reconstruction of eastern Japan through art (donations open until 6:00 PM on February 17th). Sponsored by the Isetan Mitsukoshi Group, this project, launched in 2012 as a social contribution initiative, showcases works by internationally renowned artists in the store's showroom windows, followed by an online charity auction after the exhibition. All proceeds from the charity auction, excluding consumption tax, will be donated to the "Children's Art House," an educational support project run by sister schools Tohoku University of Art and Design and Kyoto University of Art and Design to support children in areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. Since 2015, Isetan has adopted a new corporate message: "This is Japan." The theme for this third project, "LOVELY RIMPA," focuses on the Rinpa school, a traditional Japanese art form celebrating its 400th anniversary. Curated by producer Shigeo Goto, "fan art pieces" by nine artists will adorn the show windows of each store.
At Isetan Shinjuku, contemporary artist Kohei Nawa, photographer Chikashi Suzuki, designer Masayoshi Nakajo, painter and picture book author Machiko Miroko, and photo artist Takaaki Akaishi will be exhibiting. At Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, fashion designer Shuko Nakazato, winner of the ITS Jewelry Grand Prix Swarovski Award, and garden designer Keiko Yoshitani will be exhibiting. At Ginza Mitsukoshi, contemporary artists Kengo Kito and Noboru Tsubaki will be participating.
The art pieces will be on display until February 16th at Isetan Shinjuku and Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi Main Store, and until February 15th at Ginza Mitsukoshi. Applications for the auction, which will be held after the exhibition, will be accepted at any time until 6:00 PM on February 17th on the "KISS THE HEART" special website (http://kisstheheart.jp). The sale price is 30,000 yen.
