Kei Nishikori shows off Air-K at Tag Heuer event: "I want to invigorate the tennis world like Shuzo Matsuoka"

Nov 21, 2014

Swiss watch brand TAG Heuer hosted the charity event "KEI for KIDS by TAG Heuer" on November 21st at a special venue on the rooftop of Matsuya Ginza, featuring tennis player Kei Nishikori. The event announced a three-year extension of the TAG Heuer ambassador contract, which began in 2012, for a new three-year period beginning in 2015. Nishikori also led a tennis workshop with 15 children from Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture, as part of the activities of the "LVMH Children's Art Maison," an emotional education facility supported by the LVMH Group. Luc Decroix, general manager of TAG Heuer Japan, appeared at the event and commented on the contract renewal, saying, "Mr. Nishikori embodies the TAG Heuer brand, and we have decided to extend the contract in the hopes of his continued success." Nishikori also offered his support, saying, "Three years ago, when we signed the agreement, Nishikori was ranked 98th, but he has now risen to 5th. I hope that in the near future, he will become the first Asian to achieve the No. 1 ranking." He also presented Nishikori with an Aquaracer watch engraved with "ATP TOUR 2014 FINALIST" as a commemorative gift.

Next, the workshop with the children began. After a warm-up, Nishikori demonstrated basic strokes and serves, as well as his signature "Air-K" move, which he showed off in his match against Novak Djokovic at the ATP Tour Finals on November 15th.

Nishikori, who was smiling throughout the rally with the children, said, "I've never had the opportunity to teach children before, so I was really looking forward to it. Even after I retire, I would like to play a role in invigorating Japanese tennis, just like my mentor, Shuzo Matsuoka." She sent a message to the children saying, "I am very happy to be able to work in tennis, which I love. I hope that everyone will find something they love and can immerse themselves in. I believe that promoting the sports world is important in Japan's future, so I hope that the children who are currently working hard at tennis will aim for the Tokyo Olympics."
