Chanel's Fall/Winter 2022/23 ready-to-wear collection show was released on March 8th at 10:00 PM JST.

"Tweed is the focal point of this entire collection, which is a true tribute to it," said Virginie Viard. "Following Gabrielle Chanel's footsteps along the River Tweed, the colours of the local landscape were imagined in the tweed: a long pink coat speckled with blue and purple, or the tweed of a burgundy suit with delicate shimmers of gold. It's no wonder Gabrielle Chanel walked the Scottish countryside in this way, picking ferns and arranging bouquets to communicate the colour palette she desired to local artisans." And then there's the story of the Duke of Westminster's jacket: that she had made one for herself and wore it beautifully. "There's nothing sexier than wearing the clothes of someone you love," continues Virginie Viard. "I was fascinated by this very modern attitude, and how Chanel made tweed feminine."

The Grand Palais Ephémère, venue for the Fall/Winter 2022/23 ready-to-wear show, was covered in tweed. Jackets were psychedelic, subtly masculine, or slightly oversized, and trousers were worn in shiny black velvet. Skinny skirts were paired with high socks and stiletto-heeled pumps in patent leather or wool bouclé, or with rubber or thigh-high boots in black or beige.

Tweed, with its endless possibilities for combinations of color and material, is a code that will forever symbolize the Maison Chanel. "I love working with tweed and I can't imagine myself at CHANEL without it."
