BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE will release the "CHANGE" bag, a collaboration with the design unit MTDO inc., on January 17th as the sixth installment in its "BAO BAO PARK" series, which develops products in collaboration with creators.
CHANGE is a vertical bag made with the familiar triangular pieces, featuring two handles and a zipper closure. Its greatest feature is the included foldable inner pad, also made with triangular pieces. It features six slit pockets, one side of which can hold an 11- to 15-inch laptop, and the other side can hold a tablet, smartphone, peripherals, documents, etc.
The bag is available in four colors: black, silver, yellow, and turquoise. The padding can be removed for two-way use. It is available at Daikanyama T-Site, MoMA Design Store, The Conran Shop Marunouchi, and other locations. The price is 88,000 yen.
Mted, the creative unit formed by Tago Manabu and Tago Yuko, who handled the product design and design management of CHANGE, are one of the few designers in Japan who practice design management. With the motto of creating ever-evolving designs based on new values that go beyond preconceived notions, they provide total design, direction, and management from concept creation to product release in a wide range of industrial fields. They designed CHANGE as a bag for the creative class (a term coined by Richard Florida to refer to people who integrate knowledge and information to create new value).
