Music producer and DJ Yasutaka Nakata was born on February 6, 1980, in Ishikawa Prefecture. After graduating from high school, he formed the music unit "CAPSULE" with Toshiko Koshijima and made his major debut in 2001. He handles everything from songwriting, composition, and arrangement to performance and engineering. In 2003, he began producing music for Perfume, achieving success by shifting their focus to techno-pop. He has since produced soundtracks for the TV drama "Liar Game" and the films "One Piece" and "Star Trek," and provided music for the fashion brand "FRAPBOIS" for its 2008 Spring/Summer and 2008-2009 Autumn/Winter collections. In 2010, he became the first Japanese artist to provide a remix for Kylie Minogue, creating a buzz. Since 2011, he has also produced music for Kyary Pamyu Pamyu. At the 2012 Japan Record Awards, he won the Arrangement Award for his work on Perfume's "Spice" and Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's "Tsukema Tsukeru." He also performs as part of the duo "COLTEMONIKHA" with fashion designer Keito Sakai. He commented on a TV program that when composing, he uses a smartphone app to check whether there are any songs similar to the melody he comes up with. However, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's eighth single, "Yume no Hajimari Rinrin," due for release on February 26th, has been criticized for its striking similarity to the female singer GAO's song "Sayonara" (1992).
