Bottega Veneta Shanghai store currently holding a solo exhibition by artist duo Birdhead

Feb 6, 2014

Bottega Veneta is hosting "Solo Exhibition by BIRDHEAD" at its Yifeng Galleria store on the Bund in Shanghai, running until the end of March.

The exhibition is part of the brand's efforts to foster the next generation of artists and support groundbreaking cultural projects. This time, it features the photographic work of artist duo BIRDHEAD, consisting of Song Tao and Ji Weiyu. Their snapshot aesthetic led to their work being exhibited at the 2011 Venice Biennale and to a group exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the 2012 Shanghai Biennale.

Their work captures fragments of everyday life, capturing a slice of urban reality that contrasts with the glamorous city of Shanghai: disoriented young people, partygoers, destroyed buildings, faded advertisements, and street scenes. The exhibition is curated by Professor Gu Zheng, a professor of visual culture and contemporary Chinese photography at Fudan University. Professor Gu has also served as a curator at New York University's Parsons School of Design and the Smithsonian Institution.

The Bottega Veneta Yifeng Galleria store is located on Shanghai's iconic waterfront, the Bund, and is the brand's largest boutique in China. It features a gallery space on the second floor, where previous exhibitions have been well-received, including "Damaged Heritage," which focused on China's decaying heritage; "Talking Objects," which explored how everyday objects intersect with our daily lives; "Facing Faces," which explored the artistic value of portraiture; and "Critical Landscapes," which explored humanity in nature.
