Artist Yoko Ono was born in Tokyo on February 18, 1933. After attending Gakushuin Girls' Junior and Senior High School, she entered Gakushuin University's Department of Philosophy in 1952. In 1953, she moved with her family to New York, where she studied music and poetry at Sarah Lawrence College. In 1956, she met composer Toshi Ichiyanagi, dropped out of school, and married him. In 1960, she opened her Chambers Street loft to avant-garde performances, showcasing her conceptual works from the 1950s. She divided her time between Japan and New York, but in 1966 she moved to London. She met Beatles member John Lennon at her solo exhibition "Unfinished Paintings and Objects" in November of that year. The two were involved in avant-garde musical and performance activities, and married in March 1969, shortly after her divorce from her second husband, Anthony Cox. The two actively participated in anti-war movements such as "Bed In" and "War Is Over," attracting attention.

They released their collaborative album "Double Fantasy" in December 1980, but Lennon was shot and killed shortly thereafter. This incident shocked the world, but she continued to actively pursue her artistic career. In 2009, she was awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale in recognition of her many years of achievement.

In 2012, she teamed up with the select shop "Opening Ceremony" to release a menswear collection. Her innovative designs, inspired by her late husband, John, attracted a lot of attention.
