At the age of 15, music producer Ivan Rogers, who was visiting Barbados, discovered her talent, and at 16, she signed with Def Jam CEO Jay Z. In 2005, her debut song "Pon de Replay" became a huge hit, and she continued to release hit after hit. Her hit single "SOS" topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three consecutive weeks.

In 2008, "Take a Bow" and "Disturbia" also topped the chart.
In February 2009, Rihanna was assaulted in a car by her boyfriend, Chris Brown. After this incident, she took a 10-month hiatus from public activities, but resumed them in November of the same year. In January of this year, Shakira released a music video for a song featuring Rihanna, which became a hot topic around the world. She has also always been noted for her high fashion sense, and last year she released a collaborative line with River Island, as well as a limited-edition collaborative collection with the cosmetics brand MAC.
