Feb 15, 2014

Singer Ayaka Nishiwaki (A-chan) was born on February 15, 1989, and is a member of the techno-pop unit "Perfume." Originally from Hiroshima Prefecture, she is the most talkative of the three members, serving as the group's leader. She is known for her Hiroshima accent. In 2000, she enrolled in Actors School Hiroshima and formed the group "Perfume" with Yuka Kashino and Yuka Kawashima (who later left and was replaced by Ayano Omoto). She moved to Tokyo when she was in her third year of junior high school and joined Amuse. The group changed its name from "Perfume" to "Perfume." Around this time, Yasutaka Nakata joined as sound producer, and the group shifted to a completely different techno-pop style from their Hiroshima days. In September 2005, she made her major debut with the single "Linear Motor Girl." Her fifth single, "Polyrhythm," released in 2007, garnered widespread acclaim and quickly became a household name. Her sixth single, "Baby cruising Love/Macaroni," released in January 2008, reached third place on the Oricon weekly chart. Her seventh single, "love the world," released that same year, reached number one on the Oricon singles chart. Her outfits in the music video were by agnes b. In 2010, she performed at her first Tokyo Dome concert, drawing approximately 50,000 people. In the music videos for her double A-side single, "Unnatural Girl/Naturally in Love," released in April of the same year, she wore JUNYA SUZUKI for the first single and NATURAL BEAUTY BASIC for the latter. She also wore NATURAL BEAUTY BASIC in the music video for "Nee." Incidentally, the outfit on the CD jacket for "Nee" was by Marimekko. In 2012, she expanded her activities overseas, touring Asia and Europe. Furthermore, their new album "LEVEL3," released last year, became their fifth consecutive album to reach number one on the Oricon Weekly Chart, and they also achieved great success with their first ever two-dome concert in Tokyo and Osaka.
Perfume's direction by the team led by Daito Manabe, Rhizomatiks, MIKIKO, and Kazuaki Seki has been highly praised as media art, winning the Grand Prize at the 16th Japan Media Arts Festival (2012) and the 60th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
Last year, they appeared on the NHK Kouhaku Uta Gassen for the sixth consecutive year, wearing "ADEAM" by designer Hanako Maeda. Rhizomatiks used projection mapping during their performance, resulting in them being selected as the most memorable artist in the Red Team. On February 12, 2014, they released their first video clip collection, "Perfume Clips."
