We'll be sending you these updates for a while, with the hope that in the near future, we'll be able to travel abroad freely again.
This time, in our 27th installment, we'll focus on the Carnival of Venice.
Carnival is an event held in Christian countries, and during the period, parades are held in countries around the world. When it comes to carnival, many people may think of Rio Carnival, but Venice is also one of the world's three major carnivals. This beautiful parade, modeled after a masked ball that actually took place in medieval Venice, unfolds in modern-day Venice. It was canceled midway through in 2020, and last year it was broadcast online, and there were fears it would not be held this year either. However, it returned for the first time in two years on February 12th.
The canals and cityscape viewed from a gondola are particularly beautifulVenice is the capital of the Veneto region in northern Italy, and is known as the "City of Water" for its numerous waterways. Renaissance and Gothic palaces line the canals, including the Grand Canal, a symbol of Venice. St. Mark's Basilica, located in St. Mark's Square in the heart of the city, is known for its Byzantine-style mosaic tiles, and its bell tower offers a panoramic view of the city's red roofs.
