Fashion designer Jean Desses was born on August 6, 1904, in Alexandria, Egypt. He passed away on August 2, 1970. His sculptural designs, using chiffon and muslin, were characteristic of his work, a reflection of his background.

Born to Egyptian and Greek parents, he originally studied law but eventually decided to become a fashion designer. He opened a couture salon in Paris in 1937. After World War II, he traveled the world, an experience that had a profound influence on his later designs.

He eventually began designing gowns and evening dresses, and his work became popular with European royalty and filmmakers. In 1962, he designed a wedding gown for Queen Sofia of Greece.

Jean retired in 1963 due to health problems and opened a small boutique. He passed away in Athens in 1970.
