Aug 4, 2014

Designer Anna Sui was born on August 4, 1964, in Michigan, USA.
Born to a Chinese-American family, she became interested in fashion at the age of four and began designing her own outfits. She moved to New York at the age of 17 and enrolled at Parsons School of Design. After graduating, she began working as a designer, and in 1980, she presented her first collection with friends at a local boutique. Anna's work was featured in the New York Times, instantly garnering attention in the industry. The following year, her work began to be sold at major department stores such as Macy's and Bloomingdale's.
She held her first runway show at the 1991 New York Collection. This led to the opening of her first flagship store in New York the following year. The store's interior design perfectly reflected Anna's taste for interior design. The purple walls and black Victorian-style furniture in the store became the model for all subsequent stores.

She then launched her second line, "Sui Anna Sui," in 1995. In 1997, she expanded her lineup by launching "Anna Sui Party" and "Anna Sui Shoes," as well as lines for socks and jeans. In 1998, she launched "Anna Sui Cosmetics." Her new style of "street cosmetics" captured the hearts of many women, and her first store, the Isetan Shinjuku store, set a record for the highest opening-day sales at the time. In 2000, she launched her second perfume line, "Sui Dream." In recognition of these achievements, she received the Perry Ellis Award for Best Newcomer at the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Fashion Awards in 1993. In 2009, she received the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award at the same awards.
