The "Ghost in the Shell 25th Anniversary: Original Art Exhibition" will be held at the Seibu Gallery on the second floor of the Seibu Ikebukuro Main Store Annex from August 8th to 20th.
The exhibition is being held to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Masamune Shirow's comic "Ghost in the Shell," and will feature approximately 300 items, including selected manga manuscripts, animation original drawings, cels, and materials from the entire "Ghost in the Shell" series.
In addition, original goods designed for the exhibition will be on sale, as well as prints of illustrations by various creators from the previous "Ghost in the Shell" series. There will be 14 types of prints, priced from 40,000 yen to 120,000 yen. A catalog for the exhibition (2,000 yen) will also be on sale. In commemoration of the exhibition, Shiro commented, "I'm amazed that such a difficult-to-read, minor, non-literature manga has survived for 25 years. I believe this is the result of the efforts of publishers, anime, games, movies, and comic book adaptations." Also on display are numerous congratulatory comments from people involved in the series, including Production I.G. CEO Mitsuhisa Ishikawa and "Ghost in the Shell" director Mamoru Oshii. Also of interest is a note from James Cameron, known for directing "Terminator," "Titanic," and "Avatar," who wrote, "Ghost in the Shell's visual expression has reached a supreme level that could be described as literary. It is the first truly adult-oriented animation." From entrance to exit, the exhibition is packed with attractions, including a model of the "Tachikoma" created for S.A.C. promotions. Admission is 800 yen for adults, 600 yen for university and high school students, and free for junior high school students and younger. There is also an admission fee of 1,200 yen that includes a special badge.
