The 3rd Lexus Design Awards was held. The theme was "Five Senses."

Aug 12, 2014

Lexus has opened the call for entries for the third annual Lexus Design Award, an international design competition for the next generation of creators from around the world. Submissions are being accepted until November 3rd on the official designboom website. While each competition has focused on a simple theme to inspire new ideas, such as "Motion" in the first competition and "Curiosity" in the second, this year's theme is "Senses," a theme inherent in human nature. Through this theme, which is also connected to the driving experience Lexus provides to its customers, Lexus hopes to reexamine the five senses and discover new insights and possibilities. The company hopes to generate many unprecedented ideas that stimulate the senses. The 12 winning designs will be announced in early 2015 and exhibited at the Lexus venue during Milan Design Week 2015. This year, the number of prototypes required has been expanded from two to four. Winners will have the opportunity to prototype and present their ideas through mentoring sessions with world-renowned creators. The prototype winners will then present their work at the Lexus venue during Milan Design Week 2015. After a final judging process, the winners will be selected for the Grand Prize, the pinnacle of the Lexus Design Award 2015. The judging panel includes curators Paola Antonelli and Aric Chen, architect Toyo Ito, Design Boom editor-in-chief Birgit Lohmann, design writer Alice Rawsthorn, and Lexus International President Tokuo Fukuichi. The mentors are four artists: Arthur Huang, Robin Hunicke, Neri & Hu, and Max Lamb.
