At Nihonbashi Mitsukoshi, "Okoshi Geizan-kun" will be guiding visitors through the art exhibition! Works by 200 young artists from Tokyo University of the Arts will be on display.

Aug 12, 2014

Starting August 13th, Isetan Shinjuku, Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi, and Ginza Mitsukoshi will hold the "1st Art & Creation" joint project. The project aims to create opportunities for customers to experience art and the creations of artists in their own familiar surroundings. Each store will team up with the local community and other industries to decorate the store and hold various collaborative events. The event at Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi will run until August 25th (the store will be closed on the 19th). One notable feature is the appearance of "Ookoshi Geizou," a character created in collaboration between Mitsukoshi and Tokyo University of the Arts. This character, based on a haniwa figure, will appear throughout the building, conveying the joy of art. From August 13th to 18th, an event will be held in the Tennyo Statue Space in the Central Hall on the first floor of the Main Building, where visitors can create another Tennyo statue by applying an "Okoshi Geizo Sticker." During the same period, the "MITSUKOSHI x Tokyo University of the Arts Summer Art Festival 2014: An Exhibition of Works by Young Artists Leading the Next Generation," featuring approximately 200 young artists under the age of 40 recommended by professors from the Tokyo University of the Arts' Faculty of Fine Arts, will be held on the art floor on the sixth floor of the Main Building. All exhibited works are available for purchase. Prices range from 1,000 yen to 900,000 yen, with the average price ranging from 100,000 yen to 200,000 yen. Also, on August 16th, a talk show with art historian Yuji Yamashita will be held in the Central Hall on the first floor of the Main Building. A symposium commemorating the Mitsukoshi x Geidai collaboration is scheduled for the following day, the 17th. No advance reservations are required, and admission is free for both events. Furthermore, on August 13th, a workshop entitled "Try Modern Elegant Japanese Painting! - Make Your Own Fan" will be held. This workshop is open to elementary school students and above. The participation fee is 926 yen, and the first 10 people to arrive per session can participate.

During the event, various related products will be sold within the building. Bonsai art, the "art of growing," can be purchased at Bonsai Seikoen on the rooftop of the main building. The collection includes works that allow you to experience the beauty of Japanese culture, such as red weeping maples and Japanese andromeda (10,000 yen each).

The other two stores participating in the "1st Art & Creation" will be holding the event from August 13th to 25th (store closed on the 19th) at Isetan Shinjuku Main Store, and from August 13th to 24th (store closed on the 18th) at Ginza Mitsukoshi.
