How are you all doing during this lingering summer heat? Shaved ice is the perfect dessert to cool you down in the sweltering heat! We've selected 11 shaved ice treats from the new products offered by specialty shops and luxury hotels that have opened one after another this summer.
If you want to experience summer like a celebrity, we recommend Satsuki Edo Shaved Ice! This product was created to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the hotel's opening and is served at KATO'S DINING & BAR at Hotel New Otani, perfectly catering to the needs of celebrities. Chef pastry chef Nakajima Shinsuke's next Satsuki Edo sweets is a fluffy shaved ice made with natural ice from Nikko. It's not just fluffy, it's fluffy!
This Nikko natural ice is made using traditional methods, stubbornly following the tradition. Spring water is drawn from the mountain ice field, and the ice is then piled up in an icehouse and carefully preserved with sawdust. This time-consuming process is what makes it so fluffy. It's soft, like cotton candy, and apparently doesn't sting your head. That's wonderful.
Of course, the flavors are also carefully considered. There are three varieties: "Matcha," made with matcha syrup topped with yokan jelly, homemade brown sugar bean paste, and black beans from Tanba; "Mango," made with mango pulp in a jelly made with konjac threads and topped with kudzu and mango puree; and "Melon," made with melon pulp placed under the ice, topped with a jelly made with konjac flour, and 100% melon puree. Enjoy Satsuki Edo shaved ice from top to bottom, and it's sure to create a refreshing moment.
