Nars releases 40-shade lip collection featuring Charlotte Rampling

Aug 18, 2014

To celebrate the brand's 20th anniversary, NARS will release the Audacious Lipstick Collection (¥3,600 each) on September 12th, featuring 40 colors (30 of which are exclusive to the brand) (some stores will offer an early release on the 10th). While NARS currently offers over 600 products, its roots lie in 1984, when founder François Nars launched 12 lipsticks at Barneys New York. This collection pays homage to that origin and his legacy. These smooth-applied lipsticks deliver intense color with just one swipe, while also adding smoothness, moisture, and volume to lips. The case is metallic matte black, and the lipsticks themselves feature a special embossed NARS logo. Each lipstick is also named after a woman who influenced François's career. The collections have a variety of names, including the bright pink "GRETA" and the nude mauve "VANESSA," but the source of their inspiration has not been revealed.

The face of the collection is actress Charlotte Rampling, known for films such as "Goodbye, My Lovely" and "The Verdict." She was chosen because of her audacious character, and François says, "She embodies the current 'Renaissance' woman and a true artist. She's very NARS-like." The collection also includes a dark burgundy called "CHARLOTTE." In addition to the 10 limited edition colors that will be sold at Isetan Shinjuku, Hankyu Umeda Main Store, Seibu Department Store Ikebukuro Main Store, etc., a special commemorative box called "The Nars Vault" (51,000 yen) containing 10 colors each from the Audacious Lip Collection and Nail Polish R, set in a case with a mirror, will also be released in limited quantities at Isetan Shinjuku and Hankyu Umeda Main Store. In addition, Isetan Shinjuku, Hankyu Umeda Main Store, and Seibu Department Store Ikebukuro Main Store will have an advance release on September 10th.
