TRANS ARTS TOKYO 2014, a cross-genre art project that uses temporary spaces created by the development, will be held in Kanda, Tokyo from September 20th to November 3rd.
With venues in the Kanda area, including the former site of Tokyo Denki University Building 11, Arts Chiyoda 3331, and Water's Common, the project aims to create a space where people can gather, engage in dialogue, and exchange diverse values, just like family time spent in the living room.
Domestic and international artists will perform at the outdoor live event DOMMUNE LIVE PREMIUM "KANDA INDUSTRIAL"!!!!!!! (October 25th and 26th), curated by DOMMUNE, founded by Naohiro Ukawa. "Skywhale," a giant balloon installation by leading Australian contemporary artist Patricia Piccinini, will make its first tethered flight outside of Japan (September 20-28). "Urban Camp Tokyo Hotel (tentative name)," an overnight experience project offering guests a chance to experience art and the city, will also be held from November 1-3. Other events include the "Kanda Sports & Curry Expo" (October 4-5), which will feature sports experiences, curry sales, and a workshop by artist Sohei Iwata. "Insect World - Locusts," a balloon installation by contemporary artist Noboru Tsubaki and sociologist Hisashi Muroi, will be exhibited (October 19-20). A project projecting works by various filmmakers associated with Tokyo University of the Arts, the organizer of the event, onto a large screen set up between buildings (October 11-13), will also be held.
Trans Arts Tokyo began in October 2012 as a prologue to the creation of the Kanda Community Art Center in Kanda. The first event attracted a great deal of attention, with approximately 300 artists and over 10,000 visitors.
