Former soccer player Tsuyoshi Kitazawa was born on August 10, 1968, in Machida, Tokyo. While at Shutoku High School, he played on the soccer team and participated in the All Japan High School Soccer Championship in 1985. The following year, the team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Inter-High School Championships. After graduating, he joined the Honda Motors soccer team. He then studied soccer in Germany and Brazil, and was the top scorer in the Japan Soccer League from 1990 to 1991. He made his national team debut in April 1991 against Spartak Moscow and scored two goals in the Kirin Cup in June. After learning that Honda would not be joining the J.League, he transferred to Yomiuri Club (later known as Verdy Kawasaki). After the J.League's inaugural season in 1993, he became a regular player for Verdy Kawasaki and was named to the J.League Best Eleven in 1994. He continued with Verdy until his retirement in 2003, appearing in 264 J1 League matches. He also played in 59 international A matches for the Japanese national team. In recognition of these achievements, he was selected as the J.League Player of the Year in 2003.
After retiring, he worked as a soccer commentator and coach, while also serving as a director and international committee member of the Japan Football Association. He was selected as a JFA (Japan Football Association) ambassador from 2003 to 2006, and in 2012, he became assistant COO of the Japan Futsal League, playing a multifaceted role in promoting soccer.
In 1994, he received the Best Jeanist Award alongside Takuya Kimura and Ritsuko Tanaka. He is also active in social contribution activities, providing relief worldwide as an official supporter of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). In July 2013, he collaborated with TOD'S to launch a support project for victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake, holding soccer classes in the affected areas. In May 2014, he participated in an event hosted by the Japan Department Stores Association, where he promoted Cool Biz through the in-store PA system.
