Theater Products' "Reading Shop" opens for a limited time at Shinjuku Isetan

Dec 10, 2014

THEATRE PRODUCTS has opened a new concept shop, "SHOP of words: THEATRE PRODUCTS @ TOKYO Kaihoku," for a limited time only, at the TOKYO Kaihoku on the second floor of the Isetan Shinjuku main building. It will run until the 16th.

In the "SHOP of words," each item from the brand will be adorned with a barcode containing a hidden message. Scanning the barcode with a barcode reader installed in the shop will reveal a poem or Christmas message. The poems were written by Yoshinori Eguchi, Tahi Saihate, and William Shakespeare. The technology to print the message from the barcode was provided by AR Sankyodai.

Customers who purchase items from the shop during the limited time offer will have a message printed from the barcode on the product tag using a receipt printer and attached to a Christmas card from the brand. Each item will have a different hidden message attached to the barcode tag, and different messages will be woven depending on the customer's coordinated outfit. A pullover (¥15,000) and a garden bag with a ribbon (¥6,400) featuring a barcode logo exclusive to TOKYO Kaihoku will be available. The logo, with the brand name arranged like a barcode, was designed specifically for this project. Regarding this project, the product buyer commented, "This brand is serious about the possibilities of fashion, so we worked together to think about what we could do through fashion as gift needs increase with Christmas approaching. We hope that visitors will experience the act of 'communicating' through fashion, which will lead to communication and new discoveries." During the event, visitors to the shop will be able to experience the barcode attached to a product being displayed on the display, regardless of whether they purchase the product. Starting at 7:00 PM on the 10th, the AR Three Brothers, who provided the technology for the shop, and model Minami Mitsushima will appear for a 15-minute demonstration, playing the roles of a "store clerk" and a "customer."
