CHANEL's Spring/Summer 2017 Haute Couture collection was unveiled in Paris on January 24th (local time). Karl Lagerfeld chose the Grand Palais as the venue for the show. With décor inspired by 1930s Art Deco, he recreated a set reminiscent of the mirrored staircase leading to the Haute Couture salon that still stands at the house's flagship store at 31 rue Cambon. The floor was covered with numerous mirrors, reflecting a silvery landscape that resembled an inorganic, icy world. A cylinder placed in the center resembled a kaleidoscope, showing various expressions. Looks that expressed "crazy femininity" were lined up on the runway. The collection began with a pastel-colored coco tweed suit featuring structured shoulders, a pronounced high waist, and volume at the hips for a striking contrast. The collection continued with original yet distinctive looks that felt like a throwback to her roots, including classic black and white tweeds, a strapless top with metallic embellishments, thigh-high boots, and a black dress with a beautifully draped bust. The collection featured captivating silhouettes accentuated by straight and cylindrical lines, bold décolletés, and costume pearl anklets. Evening dresses featured a variety of materials, including satin, organza, taffeta, lace, tulle, jacquard, and georgette. These dresses exuded elegance, including sheer dresses with lustrous embroidery and mini dresses with generous white and pink feathers at the hem and sleeves for a voluminous, glamorous look. For the finale, Chanel ambassador Lily-Rose Depp appeared in a pale pink wedding gown, receiving the loudest applause of the day and bringing the show to a spectacular close.
