From February 25th to March 5th, Matohu's Omotesando flagship store will host an exhibition of precious Japanese folk dolls, selected by Matohu's designers from the collection of antique folk toys by Iwate-based craftsman Cocher 2 (Do), a studio-based craftsman.
For its Spring/Summer collection, Matohu will be showcasing items themed around the word "utsukushi," which was used up until the Heian period to mean "cute" or "lovely." Along with items from the Spring/Summer collection, the exhibition will also feature carefully selected folk toys from across Japan, all based on the same "utsukushi" theme.
Also available for sale will be humorous tumbler dolls by Cocher 2, and three-dimensional bags crafted from layered Japanese paper and lacquer in free-form shapes such as birds and cats.
